There are a few cases in which a broadcasting
company and the local government authority in their joint
efforts, turned an outdoor set into a tourist attraction.
Still, there has never been an attempt to create a theme
park from an outdoor drama set. The existing set-turned
tourists spots show only the drama set itself and therefore,
there is not much to see other than that. But the Dae
Jang Geum Theme Park combines the drama scenes and stories
into a particular theme and provides various things to
see and experience.
Unlike the other drama sets, this theme park didn¡¯t
just establish the outside of a building, but actually
reconstructed exactly the same whole building of the
palace including all the elements inside it, except
the size which is smaller than the original. So, the
palace is so realistic that visitors can see what a
palace actually looks like both in and outside.
Constructed along the geographical lines of the bottom
of the mountains, the theme park features uniquely different
sets benefiting from the natural hilly geography, and
stair case-type facilities designed to allow scenes
to be filmed from various angles. All the properties
are displayed exactly the way they actually were used
in the drama, and a wide selection of videos and photographs
are available for visitors to learn about the traditional
Korean culture and its history in an effort to serve
as an educational facility as well.
